Obverse description At center, the numeral '1' and the Arabic denomination 'دينار' (Dinar) are enclosed within a raised circle. Two crossed sprigs — a wheat ear to the left and an olive branch to the right — flank the central circle below. The Arabic legend 'الجمهورية العراقية' (Republic of Iraq) arcs across the upper field in bold relief. The entire design is contained within the ten-sided flan with a reeded border running along each facet.

Reverse description Three tall, detailed palm trees dominate the field, their fronds rendered in fine relief and laden with fruit clusters; the central tree is the tallest and most prominent, flanked by two shorter palms. Below the trees, stylized irrigation channels or water features are depicted, evoking the agricultural landscape of Mesopotamia. The Hijri date '١٤٠١' (1401 AH) appears to the left and the Gregorian date '١٩٨١' (1981 CE) to the right, flanking the trunks of the palms at mid-field. The reverse is unlettered aside from the dual dates, and the design fills the decagonal flan to its reeded edges.
