The Semiquincentennial release revisits the Winged Liberty design first struck in 1916, a year in which the U.S. Mint simultaneously overhauled the dime, quarter, and half dollar — an unprecedented aesthetic overhaul driven largely by Treasury Secretary William McAdoo's dissatisfaction with the Barber coinage that had occupied those denominations since 1892. The original was sculpted by Adolph Weinman, who also designed the Walking Liberty half dollar issued the same year.
Struck in .9999 fine gold at the original dime's diameter, this 2026 issue marks 250 years of American independence. The gold medium is the same used for the Mint's 2016 centennial restrike of the same design.
