Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, rendered in high relief after Adolph A. Weinman's celebrated 1916 Mercury Dime design. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper rim, with the motto IN·GOD WE·TRUST inscribed in two lines in the lower left field. To the right of the portrait, a stylized Liberty Bell incorporating the Semiquincentennial commemorative numeral 250 is depicted, beneath which appears the West Point Mint mark W. The date 1916, referencing the original issue year of the design, is inscribed along the lower rim. The overall aesthetic reflects the Art Nouveau influenced medallic tradition of the American Renaissance period.
