Kutch maintained its own coinage well into the 20th century under the paramountcy framework that allowed princely states limited monetary autonomy alongside British Indian currency. VijayarajJi, who ruled from 1942, issued coins bearing both his own name and that of George VI — a dual-authority formula common to Kutch practice and reflecting the layered sovereignty of the late colonial period. The state's integration into the Indian Union in 1948 ended this coinage tradition abruptly, making the window for this type extremely narrow.
