1 Denier - János Zsigmond and Izabella

Izabella Jagiellon and her son János Zsigmond returned to Transylvania in October 1556 after years of Habsburg-imposed exile in Mazovia, their re-entry made possible by the Ottoman pressure that forced Ferdinand I to relinquish his nominal hold on the principality. These deniers were struck almost immediately upon that return, establishing the new joint regency's monetary authority at a moment when the political situation remained genuinely precarious — the Habsburgs had not abandoned their claim, and Ottoman suzerainty meant Transylvania's independence was conditional at best.
