| Obverse description | Central field displays a quartered Hungarian royal shield bearing the Árpád stripes, the patriarchal double cross, and additional heraldic charges, all within a beaded inner circle. The date appears prominently at the top of the legend, flanking the shield on either side. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads IOAN SECVN D G R VN, abbreviated for Iohannes Secundus Dei Gratia Rex Ungariae, identifying János II (John Sigismund) as King of Hungary by the Grace of God. The coin is struck on an irregular flan characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the period. The overall style is consistent with mid-sixteenth-century Transylvanian minting practice. |
