Engelbert III and Meinhard II ruled Görz jointly during a period when the county was actively consolidating its position in the eastern Alpine passes — control of the Drau and Piave valleys made Görz a logistical pivot between the Adriatic coast and the Tyrolian interior. Joint-name coinage of this kind was not ceremonial; it reflected genuine co-governance under the Meinhardiner dynasty before Meinhard II's line eventually absorbed the whole of Tyrol in 1271.
