| Beschrijving voorzijde | Draped bust of Ferdinand Charles facing right, rendered in a crude style typical of provincial hammered copper coinage of the mid-17th century. The effigy occupies the central field with the surrounding Latin legend partially visible along the periphery. The portrait shows the ruler with period costume, the overall strike uneven due to the hammered technique. |

Ferdinand Charles of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort issued this copper denier/pfennig in 1649, the year after the Peace of Westphalia ended three decades of war that had devastated the small Rhenish territories. For a county of Löwenstein-Wertheim's modest scale, maintaining even a token copper coinage was a jurisdictional statement — the right to strike coin being among the most jealously guarded of imperial privileges, and one frequently contested among the fragmented lordships of the Franconian Circle.
