Additional information

Ferdinand Charles ruled Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort through the final years of the Thirty Years' War and its immediate aftermath — a period when small copper issues like this circulated more out of necessity than design. The Peace of Westphalia had only just been concluded in 1648, leaving the minor Rhenish lordships scrambling to reassert administrative normalcy, coinage included.

The dual denomination — French denier alongside German pfennig — reflects the county's awkward geographic and political position straddling the linguistic and feudal boundary between the Empire and French-influenced territories along the Rhine.
