Tomaso Mocenigo's dogeship coincided with a period of Venetian territorial consolidation on the terraferma, with Verona and Vicenza absorbed into the Serenissima's mainland dominion in 1405 following the collapse of Visconti-backed Gian Galeazzo's heirs and the dismemberment of the Scaligeri and Carraresi lordships. Coinage struck in the names of specific subject cities was a deliberate administrative signal — Venice acknowledged local monetary traditions rather than immediately imposing Rialto types.
Billon issues of this weight class circulated at the lowest transactional level, subject to heavy wear and loss. Survivors in any legible condition are uncommon.
