| Beschrijving voorzijde | Within a beaded inner circle, the letters F, R, I, P and Omega are arranged in cruciform pattern around a central pellet or ring, forming a cross shape. The individual letters occupy the four quadrants and extremities of the cross, a distinctive stylized layout characteristic of medieval Italian communal coinage struck in the name of Emperor Frederick II. A beaded border encloses the central design, with the surrounding legend occupying the outer field. The overall composition is bold and heraldic, typical of the hammered scyphate (scodellato) technique of the period. |
