Obverse description Central field features a plain cross with splayed arms enclosed within a raised inner circle, all set against a roughly textured field typical of hammered billon coinage. The surrounding legend, separated from the central motif by the inner circle, reads + • LA • TE • DVX •, an abbreviated reference to Laurentius Teupulus (Lorenzo Tiepolo), Doge of Venice. The lettering is rendered in a crude medieval Gothic style consistent with 13th-century Venetian mint practice. The flan is irregular in shape and shows characteristic unevenness of strike.
