| Obverse description | Crowned bust of King James I facing left, rendered in a schematic medieval style, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The crown is depicted with fleurs and pellets, characteristic of the Aragonese royal iconography of the late thirteenth century. The legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the coin, separated from the central device by the beaded circle. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered coinage of this period, with some areas of flat strike. |
