Otto IV's brief hold on imperial legitimacy — he was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Innocent III in 1209, then excommunicated by the same pope barely a year later — makes the dating of this issue historically tight. Parma's civic coinage invoked his name during the precise window when that association still carried authority. By 1210, aligning with Otto was a political liability.
