Obverse description Facing frontal effigy of the seated patriarch Gregory of Montelongo enthroned, holding a processional cross in his right hand and a book (the Gospels) in his left hand. The figure is rendered in a stylized Romanesque manner characteristic of 13th-century Italian ecclesiastical coinage. The Latin legend GREGORIV PA (Gregorius Patriarcha) is distributed across the field, identifying the issuing prelate. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle.
