Reverse description The reverse displays a large ornate cross pattée occupying the central field, a standard device on Angevin denaro coinage of Sicily. The cross divides the field into four quarters and is enclosed within a circular Latin legend reading + IERL. ET. SICIL, an abbreviation of Hierusalem et Siciliae, referencing the royal titles of Charles II as King of Jerusalem and Sicily. The flan is irregular with weak striking in areas, consistent with hammered production of this period.
