Honoré V ruled Monaco under French protection and struck his copper coinage at the Paris Mint, but the principality's relationship with France was precarious enough that these issues carry a distinctly provisional character. The KM#97.2 designation separates this piece from the .1 variety by the untied knot in the wreath — a minor die detail that nonetheless creates two collectible subtypes from what was already a low-mintage princely issue.
