| 表面の説明 | Small hammered silver dam of irregular flan, bearing the royal legend in Pracalit Nepal Lipi (Newari) script arranged in four quadrants divided by a cruciform design. The characters of the inscription श्री रणजीत मल्ल, identifying the issuing ruler Ranajit Malla of Bhaktapur, fill the available field. The lettering is boldly struck in high relief, typical of the crude but distinctive hammered coinage of the Bhaktapur mint. The flan is irregular and slightly cupped, consistent with hand-struck small-denomination coins of the Malla period. |

Ranajit Malla ruled Bhaktapur, the smallest of the three rival Newar kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley, until 1769 when Prithvi Narayan Shah's Gorkha forces completed their conquest of the valley. Bhaktapur fell last. The dam was the smallest fractional unit in the local coinage hierarchy, and at 0.13 g these pieces were struck under genuinely difficult conditions — the Bhaktapur mint lacked the resources of Kathmandu or Patan, and fabric quality across the series is accordingly inconsistent.
