The upper register contains the first part of the Shahada, reading 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but Allah), while the lower register continues with 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the messenger of Allah), followed by the salutation 'salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam'. The lettering is rendered in a characteristic Mughal epigraphic style, deeply struck in relief on the irregularly shaped flan, with visible wear and patination consistent with circulation. |
