| Beschrijving voorzijde | Full-length armored effigy of Duke Karl of Södermanland standing facing, clad in elaborately engraved plate armor and a flowing mantle, holding a sword upright in his right hand and a shield or orb in his left. A heraldic device appears at his side. The figure is rendered in the bold, slightly stiff late-Renaissance hammered style characteristic of Swedish ducal coinage of the 1590s. The Latin legend surrounds the effigy within a beaded inner circle, reading CAROLVS · D · G · HÆRED · PRIN · SWETIÆ & DVX SVDERMANNIÆ, identifying Karl by the Grace of God, hereditary prince of Sweden and Duke of Södermanland. |
