Obverse description Armored bust of Philip II of Spain facing left, depicted in high relief with a short beard and curly hair, wearing an elaborately engraved suit of armor with a ruffled collar and a draped mantle over the shoulders. The effigy occupies nearly the full field of the coin, rendered with considerable artistic detail characteristic of the Netherlandish Renaissance hammered coinage tradition. A beaded inner border separates the central portrait from the surrounding circular Latin legend. The outer border features a continuous row of beads or pellets following the irregular coin edge.

Reverse description Central crowned quartered coat of arms of Philip II of Spain, displaying the combined arms of Castile, León, Aragon, and Granada with the inescutcheon of Portugal, supported by two lions rampant as supporters flanking the shield, with the Order of the Golden Fleece pendant below. The central shield is surrounded by a beaded inner circle, outside of which are arranged sixteen smaller shields bearing the arms of Philip II's various dominions, including those of Burgundy, Austria, Flanders, Brabant, Holland, Zeeland, Guelders, and other territories. The entire composition fills the field to the rim, with no legend on the reverse, and an outer beaded border runs along the coin's edge.
