正面描述 Crowned and bearded effigy of Philip II of Spain in right-facing profile, depicted with a ruffled collar and armoured bust with pauldron visible at the shoulder. The king wears an ornate imperial crown, rendered with fine detail characteristic of late 16th-century Spanish Netherlands hammered coinage. The legend surrounds the effigy within a beaded inner border, reading PHILIPPVS D G HISP Z REX DVX BRA. The portrait is bold and high-relief, consistent with the greater striking depth expected of a piedfort piece of double weight.

背面描述 Crowned heraldic shield displaying the composite arms of the Spanish Habsburg monarchy, incorporating the quarterings of Castile, León, Aragon, Sicily, Austria, Burgundy, Brabant, Flanders, and Tyrol, together with the inescutcheon of Portugal. The jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece hangs from the base of the shield on a decorative collar. The whole is surmounted by an imperial crown and flanked by the circular legend within a beaded border. The reverse legend reads DOMINVS MIHI ADIVTOR, meaning 'The Lord is my Helper', a Psalmic motto long associated with the House of Habsburg.

附加信息

Piedforts were never intended for circulation. Struck on specially prepared, extra-thick planchets, they served as presentation pieces — gifts to dignitaries, proof-of-dies for mint officials, or diplomatic tokens. This example from the Brabant mint dates to the turbulent final decades of Philip II's rule over the Spanish Netherlands, a period defined by the Duke of Parma's grinding military reconquest of the southern provinces and the formal separation of the northern Union of Utrecht, which would become the Dutch Republic.

The Delmonte S#88 designation marks this as a piedfort variety, distinct from the circulating daalder series. Witte 832 cross-references confirm Brabant provenance.
