| Obverse description | Crowned and bearded effigy of Philip II of Spain in right-facing profile, depicted with a ruffled collar and armoured bust with pauldron visible at the shoulder. The king wears an ornate imperial crown, rendered with fine detail characteristic of late 16th-century Spanish Netherlands hammered coinage. The legend surrounds the effigy within a beaded inner border, reading PHILIPPVS D G HISP Z REX DVX BRA. The portrait is bold and high-relief, consistent with the greater striking depth expected of a piedfort piece of double weight. |
