| Obverse description | Armored and bareheaded bust of Philip II facing left, rendered in the style typical of Habsburg portraiture of the mid-sixteenth century. The date 1557 appears below the bust, presented as an extension of the peripheral legend and oriented inverted relative to normal reading direction. An inner circle frames the effigy. A countermark of type A27.1, bearing the Zeeland lion, is applied behind the neck of the bust. The Latin legend runs along the outer periphery. |
