| Obverse description | Armored bust of Philip II, King of Spain, facing right, wearing a ruffled collar and elaborately detailed plate armor. The legend encircles the effigy, reading PHS D G HISP Z REX DVX BRA, identifying the king as Philip, by the Grace of God, King of Spain and Duke of Brabant. The date 1592 appears in the lower field, divided by the truncation of the bust. The portrait is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of late sixteenth-century Flemish hammered coinage, with the irregular planchet edge typical of the period. |
