| Obverse description | Draped armored bust of Philip II of Spain facing left, wearing a ruffled collar and pauldron, with closely cropped curly hair and a short beard rendered in fine relief. The date appears at the base of the bust, divided by the truncation. A beaded inner circle frames the effigy, with the Latin legend running along the outer periphery reading PHS D G HISP Z REX DVX BRA, identifying Philip by the grace of God as King of the Spains and Duke of Brabant. The hammered flan shows characteristic irregular shaping typical of sixteenth-century Low Countries coinage. |
