Obverse description A fully armored knight stands in three-quarter view, body turned to the left with head facing right, wearing a plumed helmet and a draped surcoat over full plate armor. Before him, a shield bearing the provincial arms of Friesland divides the date and the surrounding Latin legend. The composition is rendered in the robust, somewhat archaic style characteristic of early Dutch provincial hammered coinage, with the mint mark, when present, appearing at the conclusion of the obverse legend.
