Obverse description A fully armoured knight stands facing right, his figure positioned behind and above a crowned shield bearing the rampant lion of the Netherlands. The knight's right arm is raised, holding a sword upright, while his left arm supports the shield; elaborate mantling and decorative foliage flank the composition. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery between pellet stops. The overall design is rendered in the vigorous, high-relief hammered style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Dutch provincial coinage.
