| Reverse description | Central field displays a large elaborate quartered heraldic achievement comprising the combined arms of Bronckhorst and Batenburg, surmounted by two crested helmets with ornate mantling issuing to either side. The helmets are topped by elaborate crests, including a lion passant and foliate devices, rendered in the detailed Renaissance heraldic style characteristic of Dutch nobility coinage of the period. An inner beaded border frames the armorial composition. The surrounding Latin legend, divided by star stops, reads POSVI × DEVM × ADIVTOREM × MEVM × QV × TIMEBO, a devotional motto from Psalm 118 meaning 'I have made God my helper, whom shall I fear,' with the date 77 (for 1577) appearing at the base of the legend. |
