| Additional information |
Issued at the height of the early Dutch Revolt, this daalder belongs to a fractured moment when the seventeen provinces were still attempting collective resistance under the Union of Arras and the rival Union of Utrecht had not yet hardened into permanence. Overijssel's participation in producing coinage under the States' authority rather than Philip II's was itself a political act — asserting fiscal independence from a crown that had garrisoned troops across the region under the Duke of Parma's advancing campaigns.
The type is scarce in any grade. Overijssel was among the smaller and less financially robust lordships, and its mint output across this two-year window was correspondingly limited.
