Obverse description Central Burgundian cross with a firesteel (tinder steel) at the intersection, the arms of the cross extending to the inner circle and dividing the date across the quarters. The cross is surmounted by a crown at the top. A rose mintmark appears at the commencement of the encircling Latin legend, which runs along the outer periphery of the coin. The overall style is characteristic of late sixteenth-century hammered Low Countries coinage.

Reverse description A crowned heraldic coat of arms of Philip II of Spain occupies the central field, displaying the complex quartered royal arms of the Spanish Habsburgs. The shield is encircled by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, with the pendant fleece visible at the base. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition along the coin's periphery, typical of the Burgundian cross daalder series issued under Philip II.
