Obverse description Central field displays the crowned arms of Utrecht — a crosshatched shield surmounted by an open crown — supported on either side by a rampant lion acting as heraldic supporter. The date 1578 appears in the lower portion of the inner field, divided by the base of the shield. The entire central composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the Latin legend runs continuously around the periphery, separated by cross stops. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular edge typical of late 16th-century Dutch civic coinage.
