Reverse description The reverse presents a cruciform arrangement of seven heraldic shields, each representing one of the principal towns or districts of Zeeland, set within an elaborately ornamented cross composition that fills the entire field. The shields display a variety of civic arms including towers, lions, anchors, and other devices rendered in sharp relief. The peripheral legend MO · NO · ARG · ORDIN · ZEELANDIÆ · 1687 · · 5 SC, identifying this as a new silver coin of the States of Zeeland valued at 5 schellings, is distributed around the coin's border with the date 1687 prominently placed at the top. The overall design follows the established type of Zeeland silver coinage of the Dutch Republic period. The milled border frames the design with a fine toothed pattern consistent with piedfort striking technique.
