1 Cruzeiro

The cruzeiro was reintroduced in 1967 under the military government's monetary reform, which also lopped three zeros off the old cruzeiro to create the "new cruzeiro" — though the "new" designation was quietly dropped almost immediately. Brazil's chronic inflation meant this denomination lost practical purchasing power within a few years of issue, and the entire cruzeiro system would eventually be replaced by the cruzado in 1986 after inflation had rendered small-denomination coins essentially worthless.
