A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust, reading GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D:, identifying the monarch as King of Britain by the Grace of God and Defender of the Faith. The engraver's initials WW appear in the truncation of the bust. The overall style is consistent with early nineteenth-century British colonial medallic portraiture. |

No crown denomination was ever officially struck for New South Wales under William IV, and copper-nickel was not a coinage alloy in use anywhere in the British colonial system during the 1830s. This piece is almost certainly a later fantasy or token issue produced for the collector market, not a coin that circulated in the colony.
