| 正面描述 | Laureate and draped bust of Oliver Cromwell facing left occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with carefully detailed flowing hair secured with a laurel wreath. The truncation shows a draped mantle. The encircling Latin legend reads OLIVAR · D · G · R · P · ANG · SCO · HIB & PRO, separated from the coin's milled border by a plain inner field. The portrait style closely imitates that of the official Cromwell crown, though subtly distinguishable in its slightly coarser execution characteristic of Dutch workshop production. |

This is not an English mint product. The "Dutch Copy" designation refers to pieces struck in the Netherlands — likely by Amsterdam medal makers — for commercial sale to collectors shortly after Cromwell's death in September 1658. The English Commonwealth never authorized a foreign striking, and the prototype English crown of that year was itself a limited issue; contemporary demand for Cromwell portraiture drove a cottage industry of Continental reproductions almost immediately.
Spink 3226A distinguishes these from the genuine Simon-engraved pieces by subtle differences in edge treatment and die workmanship traceable to Dutch workshop practice.
