Reverse description The central field displays the quartered royal arms of the Stuart pretender surmounted by a royal crown, the shield bearing quarterly: first and fourth the three fleurs-de-lis of France, second the lion rampant of Scotland, third the three passant guardant lions of England, and in base sinister the Irish harp. The date 17 16 is divided on either side of the crown at the top of the field. The surrounding Latin legend · SCOT · ANGL · FRAN · ET · HIB · REX · runs continuously around the periphery between beaded borders, with the coin oriented in medal alignment.
