| Descrizione del dritto | Central field occupied by a crowned oval quartered shield bearing the arms of the Barony of Batenburg, displayed in ornate cartouche style with elaborate scrollwork mantling. The shield quarters feature heraldic devices including lions and geometric charges, rendered in the late Renaissance hammered style characteristic of the Dutch lordly coinage of the late sixteenth century. A royal crown surmounts the escutcheon. The peripheral legend in Latin abbreviation encircles the shield, reading the title and name of the issuing lord, Herman Diederik van Bronckhorst, Baron of Batenburg and Stein. The coin's flan is irregular, as typical of hammered gold issues of this period. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | A prominent floriated or lilied cross occupies the central field, its four arms each terminating in stylized fleur-de-lis ornaments, radiating symmetrically from the centre to the edge of the coin. The cross is boldly struck in high relief, with elegant curved terminals that are characteristic of the pistole-type coinage of the Low Countries in the late sixteenth century. A circular Latin legend surrounds the cross device, reading VIRTVS EST NOBIS DEI, meaning 'Virtue is ours through God,' reflecting the pious motto of the issuing lord. The flan edge shows slight irregularity consistent with hammered production. The reverse design closely follows the tradition of contemporary Spanish and Dutch gold crown coinage. |
