Obverse description Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George IV with elaborately rendered curly hair, executed in high relief in the neoclassical style by William Wyon. The king's truncated bust faces sinister, with finely modelled facial features characteristic of Wyon's portraiture. The peripheral Latin legend reads GEORGIUS IV DEI GRATIA, disposed around the upper arc of the coin, interrupted by the date 1825 placed centrally at the base of the design. The legend and date are separated from the field by a fine toothed or beaded border running along the full circumference of the coin. Two small decorative stops flank the lower legend, framing the date within the overall composition.
