附加信息

No crown was ever officially struck for New South Wales in 1830 — this piece belongs to a category of colonial tokens and pattern-style pieces produced to address chronic small-change shortages that plagued the Australian colonies throughout the early nineteenth century. The British government consistently failed to supply sufficient coinage, leaving merchants and private issuers to fill the gap. George IV had died in June 1830, meaning any piece bearing his effigy struck after that point was either pre-dated or produced from dies already in circulation before news of his death reached the colony.
