| 裏面の説明 | A coiled snake, rendered in fine sculptural detail with clearly articulated scales, occupies the central field, its head raised with tongue extended. To the left of the snake, a vertical panel bears Chinese calligraphic characters associated with the artist Qi Baishi and the Chinese lunar year inscription. The Isle of Man triskelion shield appears at the lower centre, above the denomination numeral 1 and the word CROWN inscribed along the base. The legend YEAR OF THE SNAKE arcs along the upper periphery, and the entire design is enclosed within a decorative border of repeating traditional Chinese-style scroll motifs. |

The Isle of Man Government's relationship with the Chinese lunar calendar series dates to the 1980s, when the Pobjoy Mint — the island's longtime striking partner — recognized an underserved collector market in commemorative lunars issued outside the major sovereign mints. The Year of the Snake falls in a twelve-year cycle that last recurred in 1989 and 2013, giving the 2001 issue its fixed calendrical position with no numismatic ambiguity about which snake year is intended.
Pobjoy struck these proofs at their Kington upon Thames facility under license from the Manx treasury.
