Gibraltar has issued commemorative crowns under Royal Mint-style licensing arrangements since the 1970s, producing volumes that far exceed any plausible collector demand — this 2018 WWI series is no exception. The Grand Fleet, assembled at Scapa Flow under Admiral Jellicoe from August 1914, was the largest concentration of dreadnought battleships ever gathered, yet its one decisive engagement at Jutland in 1916 ended inconclusively enough that Jellicoe was famously described as "the only man on either side who could lose the war in an afternoon."
Tombac with silver wash and selective gilding is the workhorse of the budget commemorative trade.
