The World Wildlife Fund's 25th anniversary in 1986 triggered a wave of commemorative coinage commissions from smaller Commonwealth territories throughout the late 1980s, the Turks and Caicos Islands among them. These islands sit within one of the Caribbean's most ecologically significant reef systems, which gave the WWF tie-in more geographic logic than most.
