Reverse description Two footballers in dynamic opposing action poses are superimposed over a stylised outline map of Mexico, with a prominent five-pointed star denoting Mexico City as the principal tournament venue. The design commemorates the XIII FIFA World Cup contested in Mexico in 1986. The upper circumferential legend reads 'XIII WORLD CUP-MEXICO-1986', while the lower arc carries the denomination 'ONE CROWN'. A beaded border frames the entire reverse field.

Additional information

The Isle of Man's commemorative crown program under the Pobjoy Mint was extraordinarily prolific through the 1980s, issuing collector pieces tied to virtually every major international event. The 1986 FIFA World Cup, held entirely in Mexico after Colombia withdrew citing infrastructure costs, was the first tournament to see a host nation repeat — Mexico had previously hosted in 1970. Maradona's "Hand of God" goal against England came that summer, making this among the more historically loaded tournaments any coin has been pegged to.

Pobjoy produced multiple reverses for this World Cup series, with the players-on-map design being one of several variants issued simultaneously.
