Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem, as sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and drapery at the shoulder. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim, and GIBRALTAR follows along the upper right rim, with the date 2002 positioned at the lower right. A fine dentilated border frames the entire obverse field.

Reverse description Central design depicting two association football players in dynamic action, one challenging the other for possession of the ball, which appears in the upper right of the composition. The scene is rendered in bold relief against a smooth field. The curved legend WORLD CUP JAPAN & KOREA 2002 arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 1 CROWN is inscribed along the lower portion of the field. The Pobjoy Mint mark PM appears in the lower field, and a designer's monogram is visible at the lower left of the central motif.
