Additional information

Pobjoy struck this piece for the Isle of Man — one of the mint's most prolific clients for commemorative issues — to mark the 1982 FIFA World Cup held in Spain, won by Italy after a 3–1 final against West Germany. The platinum variant sits at the extreme top of a multi-metal program that included copper-nickel, silver, and gold strikes across several reverses, all released simultaneously.

At .950 platinum and 52 grams, the mintage was almost certainly in the low dozens. Pobjoy rarely disclosed precise figures for platinum issues of this period, making population data essentially unverifiable.
