Additional information

Tristan da Cunha's working dog population has been central to the island's sheep farming economy since the 19th century, when St. Helena sheep were first introduced by the East India Company. The island's extreme isolation — the nearest inhabited land is St. Helena, nearly 2,500 kilometres away — means its farming practices, and the dogs integral to them, have changed remarkably little in two centuries.
