Tristan da Cunha is a British Overseas Territory so remote — 2,787 kilometres from the nearest inhabited island, Saint Helena — that its entire population was evacuated in 1961 following a volcanic eruption and had to be repatriated from England two years later. The island issues commemorative crowns through licensing arrangements with private minting companies, and has no meaningful domestic coin circulation. This piece is a souvenir product, not a monetary instrument anyone on Tristan da Cunha ever spent.
