Beschrijving voorzijde The triangular flan is styled to evoke an Egyptian pyramid, with the entire field covered in finely engraved hieroglyphic registers. At centre, a raised circular border encloses the right-facing, diademed effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The circular legend reads ELIZABETH II · ISLE OF MAN · 2008, with the name TUT rendered in Latin characters at the apex above the circle. Along the base of the triangle, the words ANKH and AMUN flank a central band of hieroglyphics, together spelling the pharaoh's name TUTANKHAMUN across the full width of the coin.

Aanvullende informatie

Pobjoy Mint struck this piece for the Isle of Man under a licensing arrangement that allowed the territory to issue commemorative coinage well outside its own historical or political sphere — a commercial model Pobjoy exploited aggressively from the 1970s onward. The canopic coffinette referenced here held the mummified liver of Tutankhamun, one of four such vessels recovered from KV62 in 1922. Howard Carter spent three full years cataloguing the tomb's contents before the coffinettes were properly examined and photographed.
