Reverse description The reverse features a central cameo portrait of the Chinese mathematician and astronomer Zu Chongzhi (Tsu Chung Chih), depicted in profile within a circular frame, surrounded by his celebrated approximation of pi expressed as the range π = 3.1415926–3.1415927. To the right of the portrait, a detailed depiction of the south-pointing compass car — an ancient Chinese directional device — occupies the central field, with the inscription COMPASS CAR to its right. The legend INVENTIONS OF THE MODERN WORLD arcs boldly along the upper periphery, while the mathematician's name appears in both Chinese characters (祖沖之) and Latin script along the lower inner border, above the denomination 1 CROWN at the base.
